This is the most popular week for decorating our homes and enjoying the task of unraveling our holiday lights…whoo hoo!
It’s a good time to remind everyone of the importance of conserving as much energy as we can. Holiday lighting will consume a great deal of energy but there are a couple things we can do to cut down on the consumption:
- Use LED lights – LED lights will cut down your energy usage by up to 90%. You can have a National Lampoon’s Christmas without the costs.
- Use outdoor timers for your lights. Timers will allow you to have the lights operate at specific hours – no need to operate lights from dusk to dawn.
Safety:
- Keep your Xmas trees watered-dried trees lead to fires
- Use LED lights because they do not get hot (another great feature of led)
Decor:
- One fun way to use what you have is to use colored lenses or bulbs in your landscape lighting fixtures
- Ensure all of your landscape lights are working properly – really adds to your decorating efforts
Happy Holidays!

Now that daylight savings has ended, it’s already dark when we’re getting out of the office. It’s the time of year when light bulbs are flying off the shelves. Those bulbs we never got around to changing are now priority one.
Your landscape lighting system is no exception. Landscape lighting lets us enjoy the evening hours for great summer BBQ s but it also plays a role in home safety. First, no one likes to drive up to a dark house when returning from work. Secondly, a well lit home has proven to be an effective deterrent for home burglaries.
Third, with the holidays approaching we tend to have an increase in visitors making it critical for walkways, driveways and entrances to be well lit.
If you have a landscape lighting system be sure to give it a little love by replacing bulbs and any damaged fixtures to ensure they are in full operation.
You may also want to consider upgrading to energy efficient path and spot lighitng by replacing your halogen bulbs with 12v LED landscape lighting.
