I had a customer call recently because he had a section of his landscape lights going out in one particular area of the property. The first clue to troubleshooting a landscape lighting system is to determine whether or not the issue applies to a certain light fixture or a group of fixtures. In this case, it was easy to determine it was a group and not a certain fixture.
My first suggest is to check your transformer box, locate the breaker and check to see if it has tripped. If it is a toggle switch flip it on or if you have a button, push it in. This simple task usually get the lights back in order. If the breaker continues to trip, you have a slightly more complex issue.
Indication:
- The line (wire) has exceeded the maximum watts allowed on a line
- A short in the wire (could have a cut, or partially cut wire)
- Breaker could be bad and in need of replacement
This landscape lighting troubleshoot list is not al-inclusive but a good place to get started.
