If you are repairing, replacing or installing low voltage landscape lighting, please be sure to use waterproof connectors. Not electrical tape or “regular” wire connectors. You do not want water to sit on the wires because it will cause corrosion or (if your fixtures are not sealed properly) will allow water into the fixture.
Pictured is a very common waterproof connector used for landscape lighting installations. They are available at Home Depot, Lowe’s and similar home improvement stores. They are pre-filled with silicone for protection of the direct burial landscape lighting wire.

All of our fixtures are sealed to prevent water or moisture from entering but not all fixtures on the market are sealed. While selecting quality fixtures is most of the battle, you will still need to protect the wire. Water can travel into the wire and corrosion will cause your system to fail over a period of time.
I hope you find this helpful!
